The Cabin Air filter in your vehicle helps remove dust, pollen, spores and other pollutants from the air you breathe. This filter is a small, pleated unit made of engineered material or paper-based multi-fiber cotton and is often located behind the glove box. It filters the air as it moves through the vehicle’s HVAC system, trapping any contaminants. It can filter particles that are 3 microns in size (a grain of sand is about 200 microns across).
It is recommended to change your cabin air filter annually or every 12,000 miles. If you find yourself driving in heavily polluted areas or on dirt roads, it is recommended every 5,000 miles. If you notice any of the following signs, it is time to have your filter changed:
