Cabin Air Filter

The Cabin Air filter in your vehicle helps remove dust, pollen, spores and other pollutants from the air you breathe. This filter is a small, pleated unit made of engineered material or paper-based multi-fiber cotton and is often located behind the glove box. It filters the air as it moves through the vehicle’s HVAC system, trapping any contaminants. It can filter particles that are 3 microns in size (a grain of sand is about 200 microns across).

It is recommended to change your cabin air filter annually or every 12,000 miles. If you find yourself driving in heavily polluted areas or on dirt roads, it is recommended every 5,000 miles. If you notice any of the following signs, it is time to have your filter changed:

  • Reduced or weak air flow.
  • A whistling sound coming from the cabin air intake ducts.
  • Unpleasant odors.
  • Excessive noise when the heating or cooling system is running.

If you suffer from allergies, asthma, or other health conditions that impact your respiratory health, the cleanliness of the air you breathe is especially important! Allergy sufferers may want to consider changing the air filter more often to ensure air quality and reduce allergy symptoms. Pro tips on allergy proofing your vehicle:

  • Vacuum seats and floor mats regularly.
  • Clean spills quickly to prevent mold from developing.
  • Wipe down the steering wheel, dashboard, console and door panels regularly.
  • Ensure windows and doors are sealed properly.
  • Keep your windows rolled up.
